5 best Cornwall holiday lodges - 2021
We’re big fans of posh holiday parks which offer lodges and call themselves things like ‘resorts’ and 'spas'. Unlike caravans, lodges don’t wobble in the wind but you still get access to indoor swimming pools, hot tubs and kids’ activities.
We’ve picked five of the best lodges in Cornwall by looking at facilities, price, location and reviews. Some are near the busy central resort of Newquay whilst others are near the quieter Lizard Peninsula or Bude in North Cornwall.
For our price comparison we looked for a family of four staying for a week in August 2021. We looked for the cheapest lodge on offer, but didn't include caravans in our searches.

1. Praa Sands Holiday Park near Penzance (indoor swimming pool, beachside, hot tubs)
**Winner: cheapest Cornwall lodge in our top 5**
If you can face the drive to Praa Sands Holiday Park then you’ll be rewarded with a holiday in one of the most beautiful parts of Cornwall.
The park itself has an indoor swimming pool, which is obviously handy if you arrive to find a week of rain has been forecast. There’s also a playground and bar, and a golf course for grown ups but its main appeal is the beachside location. Some of the accommodation is bog standard caravans but Praa Sands also has a good choice of holiday lodges with hots tubs which get great reviews. Overall, the park scores 9/10 on Hoseasons or 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor. It's not the poshest holiday park on this list, but it's a great choice for a family holiday around the more rugged end of Cornwall. Price: £1275 for a week in a ‘Classic Lodge’ for a family of four in August 2021. Caravans were available for £749 when we checked. |
2. Piran Meadows Resort and Spa Newquay (indoor pool, family friendly, hot tubs, inland)
Piran Meadows Resort and Spa ticks pretty much every box for me. For starters, the lodges and resort get very good reviews of 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor.
There’s loads on site including an indoor pool and sauna, bowling alley, restaurant and a programme with things like archery, fencing, horse riding and water activities. Lots of the lodges have hot tubs for those who enjoy outdoor baths. My only slight complaint is that you can’t walk to the beach from Piran Meadows (it’s 10-15 minutes to Newquay in the car). Having said that, it’s well placed in the middle of Cornwall so you can get to either end of the county in about an hour if you don’t get stuck behind a tractor. As you’ve probably gathered it’s aimed at families rather than couples, so don’t expect to avoid children here. Price: £2955 for a week for a family of four in a Truro Premier Lodge in August 2021. It's worth noting that they also have 'holiday homes' which are a bit posher than caravans which were from £1259 for the same week. That's a very good price considering the time of year and the range of facilities. |
3. Caddy’s Corner Lodges nearish Falmouth (quiet site, basic facilities)
You won’t find a swimming pool or loads to do onsite, but we’ve included Caddy’s Corner Lodges because of the outstanding reviews for its accommodation.
It’s a little way inland, but it’s a good base for exploring the Lizard Peninsula or visiting Lands End. You can get to the beach at Praa Sands or to Falmouth in about 25 minutes in the car. It’s a quiet site, so don’t expect a man dressed as a dog to be offering non-stop kids' entertainment. I’d say it’s ideal if you want to drag your children away from their smartphones for a few hours. There are lots of lodges with hot tubs at this one. Price: £2069 for a week in a Perran lodge for a family of four in August 2021. The lodge actually sleeps up to six people in three bedrooms, so it's good value for larger families. |
4. Sandymouth Holiday Resort Bude (indoor swimming pool, family friendly, sea views)
Sandymouth Holiday Resort is another family friendly park which is jam packed with things to do.
It’s similar to Piran Meadows (number 2 on this list) in terms of facilities and activities but it's near the Devon border so is half an hour closer to most UK cities. The other main advantage is that it offers sea views. The coastal path is a 15 minute walk away, though you’ll need the car to get to beaches for days out. Onsite there’s an indoor swimming pool, playground, restaurant and activities like archery and raft building which you pay extra for. The lodges get very positive reviews, although I don’t think any of them have hot tubs. They also have cheaper caravans onsite. Nearby Bude is a popular town whilst Tintagel and Clovelly are also nearby. Bear in mind you’ll have a four hour round trip if you want a day trip to Lands End. Price: £2739 for a week’s holiday in August 2021 for a family of four in a Sandymouth Lodge although they did also have modern caravans from £1075. |
5. Landal Gwel an Mor nearish St Ives (indoor swimming pool, fantastic facilities, hot tubs, short walk to beach)
**Winner: best Cornwall holiday lodge**
If you can afford it (and pronounce it) I’d start your search for Cornwall holiday lodges with Landal Gwel an Mor. It gets rave reviews, has a seaside location and outstanding facilities.
It certainly isn’t the cheapest holiday park you’ll find but it scored 5/5 on TripAdvisor when we checked or more than 9/10 on Hoseasons. Its onsite facilities are particularly good if the weather doesn’t live up to the brochure, with a large indoor soft play area and a climbing wall, as well as an indoor swimming pool. There are also places to eat, a fishing lake, tennis and a small golf course (bear in mind you’ll pay extra for some things). The lodges at Landal Gwel an Mor get very good reviews (9/10 typically). Some have hot tubs and some are designed to provide easier access for people with disabilities and mobility issues. A few of the lodges are pet friendly. The beach at Portreath is a short walk away (about 10 minutes) or popular places like St Ives, Perranporth and Newquay are close enough for a day trip in the car. The location is getting towards the far end of the Cornwall coastline, so it’s a long drive and is perhaps one for a week’s stay rather than a weekend. Landal are a big name in parts of Europe, but they're less well-known in the UK. They've got half a dozen sites across the UK. Price: £2819 for a week in a Lowena lodge for a family of four in August 2021. |
Price comparison: 5 of Cornwall's best holiday lodges
For our price comparison we looked for a week's holiday in a lodge for a family of four (two adults and two children) during early August 2021. There's some variation in what is considered a 'lodge', but we went on the holiday park's own definition. You'll usually find that a lodge is considerably wider than a 'caravan' or 'holiday home' with full size beds rather than the rather narrow single beds you get in most caravans. Some of them came with hot tubs.
