5 Best Skegness Caravan Holiday Parks 2022
Skegness (or SkegVegas as most of the East Midlands calls it) is jam-packed with caravan holiday parks, but the quality varies somewhat.
It's a good spot for a holiday if you like traditional seaside amusements, massive great sandy beaches and chips served with chips. It's also the nearest beach for large chunks of the East Midlands, so it has a nostalgic appeal for many people who endured long car journeys for the sake of a few hours at a windy beach in January.
Skegness is also a cheap place for a holiday with caravan park prices notably cheaper than those in somewhere like Cornwall or Devon.
We've picked five of the best holiday parks in Skegness by comparing prices, location and facilities.

1. Southview Leisure Park - indoor pool, short drive to the beach
Parkdean Resorts has two holiday parks along Lincolnshire's east coast - Sunnydale (just north of Mablethorpe) and Southview Leisure Park (in Skegness). They were previously Park Resorts caravan parks before the two companies merged.
Southview gets better reviews then Sunnydale and is a good choice if you're looking for a cheap family holiday in a busy caravan park. Much like Richmond Holiday Park, it has an indoor swimming pool, which is essential if you endure a week of torrential rain. There's also a 9 hole golf course, sports court, gym, playground and restaurant. I imagine the fishing lakes are the clincher for a lot of dads looking to escape for a week (or mums of course...). I'd say the main downside is that Southview Holiday Park isn't walking distance to the seafront, unless you have a decent pair of walking boots and children which are more willing to walk than mine. It's two miles from Skegness railway station and it's a similar distance from the beach, so you're likely to need a car. Reviews average about 4/5 on TripAdvisor which is pretty decent for these larger, busy holiday parks. There seems to be a range of reviews of the individual class of caravan, so pick carefully and long in advance if possible to get the best choice. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between a 'leisure park' and a 'holiday park'... Price: £949 for a family of four for a week in August 2022 in a six berth Parkstone caravan |
2. Haven Golden Sands - drive to Skegness, two swimming pools, adventure activities
**Haven Offers 2022: Last minute bargains from £49 + Summer Holidays from £299 + Autumn Breaks from £69**
Haven's Golden Sands holiday park is actually in Mablethorpe but Skegness is about 35-40 minutes drive away (Mablethorpe to Skegness is about 15 miles). We've included it because it's Haven's nearest resort to Skegness and a lot of people trust Haven over other holiday park brands.
The indoor swimming pool at Golden Sands is bigger than average and has a waterslide. There's also an outdoor pool which is heated, thankfully. There's an 'adventure village' which has some free things such as a playground and sand pit as well as some things you pay extra for, such as a high ropes course, 'The Jump' (see the photo), bungee trampolines, archery, a go kart track and a climbing wall. Less adventurous activities include minigolf, fishing, pottery painting, sand art and den building. There are also shows in the entertainment venue for children and grown ups. There are also three places to eat onsite including a Papa John's Pizza. As with most Haven holiday parks it is right next to a beach and this one is also near to a seal sanctuary. Haven Golden Sands has most grades of caravan which are usually offered by Haven. The cheapest option is a 'saver' caravan followed by bronze, silver, gold and 'signature'. We've done a full comparison of the different grades of caravan but key differences are that the more expensive caravans are wider and are more likely to have freezers, dishwashers, towels and extra TVs. Saver caravans don't have central heating and double glazing so you might want to upgrade in winter. At the time of writing, Haven Golden Sands scores 4.3/5 on Google reviews or 3.5/5 on TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor only gives scores in halves so the big difference between those two scores may mean that Golden Sands is on the brink of scoring 4/5 on TripAdvisor. Price: £895 for a week in a 'saver' caravan for a family of four in August 2022. Haven give the choice of either a 'Haven Stay + Play' holiday or a more basic 'Haven Stay' holiday. The key difference is that you can't use the free and paid-for activities if you just go for a 'Haven Stay' holiday. If you go for the cheaper option you can still use the restaurants but you can't attend shows, go for a swim or do any of the other activities. In this instance, you could save yourself about £150 for the week by going for 'Haven Stay' but the saving varies depending on the time of year and how many people are staying. |
3. Butlins Skegness (large resort, excellent swimming pool, celeb shows, funfair, beachside)
**Winner: best value Skegness holiday park**
Butlins Skegness is on an entirely different scale to the other holiday parks in the area. There’s really not much need to explore beyond the site if you’re staying for a few days. The beach is directly accessible and there’s a big range of things to do around the resort.
If you’ve not been to Butlins then you might see it as a bit of an old fashioned holiday but it’s come a long way in recent years. Reviews are very respectable at 4/5 on TripAdvisor or 4.4/5 on Google Reviews (almost identical to Center Parcs). In 2021, we concluded that Skegness was the best value of the three Butlins resorts in the UK (read our comparison of the three Butlins resorts to read our latest comparison). One of the main attractions of Skegness Butlins is the swimming pool which opened in 2013 after a big refurb. It’s an impressive swimming pool which has seven different features including three flumes and river rapids. Unlike Center Parcs, several other things are included in the price at Butlins Skegness. For example, the site has its own funfair with eight different rides that you can use as much as you like during your stay. If you pick the right week then you’ll be able to watch a show from a visiting celebrity. At the time of writing, they had Justin Fletcher, Milkshake Live and Diversity amongst other acts. There are also several activities which you can pay extra for such as bowling, minigolf, laser tag and pottery painting. Much of the entertainment is based in the Skyline, which is visible from across Skegness. Price: £931 for two standard rooms for a family of four. That includes a double bed in one room and twin rooms in the other room. The main choice for accommodation at Butlins is between a ‘room’ which doesn’t have a kitchen or an ‘apartment’ which includes kitchen facilities and living space. If you go for a ‘room’ then I would certainly pay for the breakfast and evening meal buffets package. If you get an apartment, it’s up to you whether you want to cook for yourself. There are restaurants onsite if you decide to occasionally eat out, but the buffet is better value. Read our comparison of accommodation types at Butlins. |
4. Richmond Holiday Centre - great reviews, indoor swimming pool, walk to the beach
If you're looking for a family-friendly holiday park in Skegness, which gets very strong reviews and is walking distance from the railway station then I'd start by looking at Richmond Holiday Centre.
It's not part of a big caravan park chain (e.g. Haven, Parkdean Resorts, Pontins) but it is well equipped with an indoor swimming pool, playground and sports court as well as evening entertainment. When I looked there was something called 'Megaslam Wrestling' as well as the usual tribute acts. There are also kids' activities and extra things you pay for, such as an 'alternative therapy centre' and a sauna. The swimming pool is more of a straightforward pool, rather than one of those fun pools with flumes, rapids and water jets which hit you in the face. Richmond Holiday Centre isn't right on Skegness seafront but you can walk to the pier and promenade in about 20-25 minutes (perhaps longer if you are carrying a windbreak, bucket and spade and a two-year-old). Quite frankly, even when you get to the sand at Skegness, you've still got an almighty trek before you actually reach the water... TripAdvisor and Google Reviews both give Richmond Holiday Centre 4.5/5. Price comparison: £955 for a family of four staying in a 'Gold Plus' caravan for a week in August 2022. It was actually a 6 berth, so better value for a larger family. |

5. The Chase Caravan Park - quiet park, basic facilities, very cheap
**Winner: Cheapest Holiday Park**
The Chase Caravan Park will appeal to those seeking a quiet base for exploring the area. It's also one of the cheapest caravan parks I've ever found in the UK.
The main issue is that it only has very basic facilities. You couldn't exactly spend the whole week onsite as there's no swimming pool or much for children to do, but it's in a fairly good location for exploring. It's a 10 minute walk to the beach at Ingoldmells but you'll need a car/bus if you want to travel in to Skegness (it's about 5 miles to the Pier). It's walking distance from Fantasy Island which is a popular attraction. Reviews vary, but they average at around 3.5 or 4 out of 5. Price: £479 for a week for a family of four in August 2022 in a four berth caravan. |
