I would start by looking at:
Haven Seton Sands Holiday Park East Lothian
- 30 minutes drive to Edinburgh, 60 minutes to Glasgow
- Family friendly coastal caravan park
- Owned by Haven - probably the biggest name in the UK's holiday park market. The company has a good reputation and is constantly investing its resorts.
- Choose from a big range of different caravans including smaller budget models or larger models with things like ensuite facilities
- Indoor swimming pool and plenty of kids' activities
- Scores of 4/5 from customers
- Choice of either a standard Haven holiday or a cheaper 'Haven Hideaway' holiday. The former is what most people go for and means you can use all the facilities. A Hideaway holiday just provides accommodation and access to the restaurants.
- Seton Sands is a good choice for cheap accommodation during the Edinburgh fringe. You can get a bus from the holiday park into the city centre in about an hour.
Haven Craig Tara Holiday Park South Ayrshire
- 60 minutes to Glasgow, two hours to Edinburgh
- Huge Haven resort, which was formerly a Butlins (one of the five largest Haven resorts). Big name brand with a good reputation for investment and upgrading its parks.
- Impressive waterpark which re-opened in 2015 after a major refurbishment. Probably one of the best holiday park swimming pools in the UK.
- five different playgrounds, six different restaurants and bars onsite including some chains such as Burger King
- two entertainment venues with evening shows
- several attractions you can pay extra to try, such as high ropes aerial adventures
- As with Seton Sands, you get a choice of just accommodation (Haven Hideaway) or a standard holiday with access to all the facilities.
