Which Is The Best Pierre & Vacances Premium Ski Resort In The Alps? 2024 Guide
Pierre et Vacances has 15 ‘Premium’ ski resorts in the French Alps.
They offer good quality accommodation and easy access to some of the best skiing in Europe. Some have swimming pools, kids' clubs, spa facilities and direct access to the slopes. We consider them to be a good alternative to ski holidays with family-friendly brands such as Club Med and Neilson.
Pierre et Vacances also has about 60 ‘Residences’ which are standard self catering properties. These tend to cost less and are worth a look if you after cheap ski deals. However, this guide is just going to focus on the ‘Premium’ resorts as they offer more facilities and usually get the best reviews.
But which is the best Pierre et Vacances Premium ski resort? And which is best value?
Here are the headlines for those don't want to read our rather long comparison:
Read on for our full comparison which looks at review scores, travel time, prices, number of slopes, distance to the nearest slope or lift, resort popularity, restaurants, swimming pools and kids' facilities.

- Premium residence Le Roselend and Premium residence Les Fermes du Soleil are good choices for a cheaper ski holiday with a big name brand. They both offer reasonable prices, positive reviews and perform well in some of the other categories we looked at.

You will also see Hotel Starc in Andorra listed as a Premium residence on the Pierre & Vacances website. It is unusual because it is the only Pierre & Vacances Premium ski resort in the Pyrenees mountain range rather than the Alps. It scores exceedingly well with customers (4.5/5 on Trip Advisor and 4.7/5 on Google = 9.2/10). However, we aren't going to include it in this comparison as it is 20km from the Grandvalira ski area rather than being in the ski resort itself. You can't hire ski equipment or book lift passes as part of your booking, so you would need to arrange this separately.

Which Pierre & Vacances Premium ski resort is in the best location for skiing?
One way to approach this is to figure out which area offers the best skiing and then pick the best Pierre & Vacances Premium ski resort in the region.
The Conde Nast Traveler guide to the 20 best ski resorts in Europe is a useful piece of research to kick things off. Four Pierre & Vacances Premium ski resorts are in locations which made the top 20 in 2022:
The Conde Nast Traveler guide to the 20 best ski resorts in Europe is a useful piece of research to kick things off. Four Pierre & Vacances Premium ski resorts are in locations which made the top 20 in 2022:
- Les Chalets du Forum is in Courchevel, which is Europe's 9th best ski resort according to Conde Nast Traveler readers. They say that 'The region is known for its exceptional snowfall and Courchevel 1850 is so high there is still loads of snow in April'.
- La Ginabelle is in Chamonix, which was voted Europe's 10th best ski resort. It hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924 and Conde Nast Traveler say that 'despite the mountain’s extreme reputation, there are plenty of beginner and intermediate runs.'
- L'Hévana and Les Fermes de Méribel are in Méribel which was voted the 18th best ski resort in Europe. They said that it 'compliments its unbeatable location with pretty chalet-style architecture, designer shopping, and stylish stays'.
The Times newspaper compiled a similar top 20 skiing guide in 2022. This one appears to have been written by one expert rather than collated from a public vote.
- Arc 1950 Le Village is in Les Arcs which they reckon is the 3rd best ski resort in Europe thanks to its '264 miles of pistes within the greater Paradiski ski area, many of which are high-altitude, long, smooth and intermediate-friendly'. Arc 1950 is also worth a special mention as it is part of a pedestrianised village with about 40 bars, shops and restaurants.
- La Ginabelle is in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc which was 7th in The Times' top 20. They said the resort has 'unparalleled winter sports credentials, guiding mountaineers and skiers on Mont Blanc and its flanks for over 200 years'.
- L'Hévana and Les Fermes de Méribel are both in Méribel which was ranked 9th in The Times' top 20. They said that it is ideal for 'mileage-hungry piste skiers' but that it's not great if you are 'trying to avoid fellow British skiers'.
Of course, you may have a preference for a particular skiing area in the Alps:
These figures on pistes and lifts have some value, but it is probably more useful to look at how many ski slopes are local to the resort.
- Five of the Pierre & Vacances Premium resorts are in the 'Three Valleys' region ('Les 3 Vallées) including Les Crêts, L'Hévana, Les Chalets du Forum, Les Alpages de Reberty and Les Fermes de Méribel. This part of the alps describes itself as the 'world's biggest ski area'. Keen skiers can ski between 330 pistes which are served by 180 ski lifts.
- Four Pierre & Vacances Premium ski resorts are in the Paradiski region. These include Le Roselend, Arc 1950 Le Village, Les Alpages de Chantel and Les Hauts Bois. The Paradiski ski region is home to 260 pistes and 141 lifts.
- Three Pierre & Vacances Premium ski resorts are within the 'Grand Massif' region including Les Fermes du Soleil, Les Terrasses d'Eos and Les Terrasses d'Hélios. The whole region covers 139 slopes and has 62 lifts.
- La Ginabelle is in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc.
- L'Amara is in Avoriaz & Les Portes Du Soleil has 650km of pistes.
These figures on pistes and lifts have some value, but it is probably more useful to look at how many ski slopes are local to the resort.
Which Pierre & Vacances Premium ski resort has the most ski runs?
Next, we compared the number of ski slopes at each Pierre & Vacances premium ski resort. We looked at the total number of slopes. You may want to dig a little deeper on the Pierra & Vacances website to see which have got lots of beginner and advanced slopes. Also, keep in mind that you can often travel to other resorts in the 'linked domain' with your lift pass.
Anyway, here is our ranking from the most number of slopes to the least:
The number of ski slopes makes a big difference if you are an experienced skier who will cover a lot of ground. If you are new to skiing then you are unlikely to travel very far so a smaller choice will probably be adequate.

Let's draw a few conclusions from all this data!
- The five star resorts are good choices if you want to be able to eat in a restaurant. All five of them have restaurants either onsite or nearby. The less posh resorts will deliver meals to your apartment instead.
- Arc 1950 Le Village has the best range of swimming pools, so you can swim inside or outside depending on your mood and the weather! Most other resorts have at least one swimming pool, apart from Les Chalets du Forum.
- If you are hoping to use both kids clubs (for 3-13 year olds) and nurseries (for under threes) then you have a choice of five different ski resorts.
- Most resorts have a sauna or steam room (or both) apart from Les Chalets du Forum and Les Crêts.
Which Pierre et Vacances Premium Residence is most family friendly?

However, it is also worth giving an extra mention to Arc 1950 Le Village which is part of a special village which doesn't have any cars. There are about 40 shops and places to eat within the village, which is made up of several hotels. It also has family entertainment, a spa and tobogganing.

Conclusion – which is the best Pierre et Vacances Premium Residence ski hotel?
We've covered a lot in this comparison of the 15 Pierre et Vacances Premium Residence ski hotels. Let's try and summarise!
Our top two choices are Premium residence Arc 1950 Le Village and Premium residence Les Terrasses d'Eos
Premium residence Arc 1950 Le Village scores well on reviews, it has two swimming pools, there are restaurants nearby and it has easy access to a good number of pistes. The Times reckons that the resort is one of the best in Europe.
Arc 1950 Le Village is particularly appealing for families as it is pedestrianised. You can wander between the 40 shops, bars and restaurants without feeling you need to be watching out for cars.
On the downside, Arc 1950 Le Village was one of the most expensive resorts in our price comparison. It is also the furthest from the UK thanks to a long transfer time from the airport of nearly three hours.
If you are keen to be in a world-famous ski resort then I would also consider L'Hévana in Meribel. It has an onsite restaurant and is another five star resort. However, it is relatively expensive, it requires a short walk to the slopes and doesn't get quite as good reviews as other posh resorts like L'Amara (which is another excellent choice for a posh resort).
Our best value choice is Premium residence Les Terrasses d'Eos. You get a great choice of slopes, easy access to the slopes from the resort and an onsite restaurant. It has very positive reviews. It only has an outdoor swimming pool, but there is a large indoor hot tub.
Other good value choices include Premium residence Le Roselend and Premium residence Les Fermes du Soleil.
Both of these resorts performed well in our league tables of prices and review scores. Le Roselend has easier access to the ski slopes whilst Les Fermes du Soleil is quicker to reach from the airport. Les Fermes du Soleil has a kids' club for older children but neither has an onsite restaurant.
