5 best Haven caravan holiday parks in Wales 2021
There are seven Haven caravan holiday parks in Wales, including three in North Wales and four in Mid/South Wales – but which is best out of Hafan y Môr, Presthaven, Greenacres, Kiln Park, Lydstep Beach, Penally Court and Quay West?
They vary greatly in size and facilities, although all of them are near to the coast and they all have at least one swimming pool (though not all of them are indoor swimming pools). It's worth realising that you need to choose either a 'Haven Stay' holiday or a 'Haven Stay + Play holiday when you book. 'Haven Stay' means that you just get accommodation and access to the restaurants. 'Haven Stay + Play' means that you can use the onsite swimming pool and other facilities, although you do pay extra for some activities. Read our blog if you're not sure which is best for you.
We’ve ranked our top 5 Haven caravan parks in Wales by looking at customer reviews, location, facilities and price.
For our rough price comparison, we looked for the cheapest available holiday for a week for a family of four at Easter 2021, August 2021 and early October 2021.

1. Haven Hafan y Môr Pwllheli, North Wales (large park, big swimming pool, lots of facilities)
Hafan y Môr Holiday Park is a big Haven park in North Wales with a great range of facilities onsite. From a bird's eye view, I reckon it's about four times as big as Haven's Lydstep Beach (see number 2) so don't come here expecting silence and isolation.
Hafan y Môr had a big revamp in 2019, so we reckon it deserves top place on this guide to the best Haven caravan parks in Wales. The recently revamped indoor swimming pool is a big family-friendly pool, rather than your usual rectangle with lukewarm water. It's got a four lane water slide as well as splash park type activities. There are nine restaurants at Hafan y Môr (more than some small towns, I reckon) as well as easy access to the beach, Dragon Lakes Adventure Village which includes boat hire and 'aerial adventures', nine outdoor play areas, soft play, two entertainment venues, minigolf, sports court, segway hire (those silly things that US businessmen ride around on) and a boating lake. Customer reviews average 4/5 on TripAdvisor or 4.5/5 on Google reviews. Price: Hafan y Môr was one of the more expensive Haven holiday parks in Wales in our price comparison. The cheapest price for a week for a family of four was £1070 in August 2021, £655 at Easter 2021 or £205 in early October 2021. Our price comparison prices are for Haven Stay + Play, which means you can use the facilities onsite. If you go for a Haven Stay holiday then you'll save some money but only get accommodation and access to the restaurants. |
2. Haven Lydstep Beach Lydstep, South Wales (small park, beachside, swimming pool)
Lydstep Beach Holiday Village is a great resort which has the best reviews of all the Haven holiday parks in Wales...but it misses out on our top spot for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, it's quite small and it doesn't have the widest range of facilities, so it is only a good choice if you want a quieter caravan holiday park. If you want somewhere bigger and busier in South Wales, I'd look at Haven's Kiln Park or travel to mid Wales or North Wales for one of the others on this top 5. Secondly, it gets booked up very quickly and was the most expensive Haven park in Wales in all our price comparisons. You need to plan many months ahead if you want to get the cheapest accommodation. The plus points at Lydstep Beach Holiday Village are that it overlooks a Blue Flag sandy beach and that customers rave about it. It's the only Haven holiday park in Wales to score 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor from customers and it scores similarly glowing reviews from Google reviews (4.6/5 when we checked in 2020). Onsite facilities include a simple indoor swimming pool, a play area, fencing, climbing and an entertainment venue. On the beach you can try watersports such as kayaking. The main challenge is finding availability. Price comparison: Lydstep Beach was the most expensive options in our price comparisons, mostly because the cheapest accommodation had sold out several months in advance. A week at Easter 2021 was £860. August 2021 was £1222. October 2021 was £310. |
3. Haven Greenacres Holiday Park, Porthmadog, North Wales (large park, sandy beach, lots of facilities)
Greenacres is a big and busy Haven holiday park near to Snowdonia in North Wales.
Much like Hafan y Môr (see number 1) it has easy access to a Blue Flag beach, so you can go for a swim in the water without worrying about what else might be floating. It's got an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor splash zone (i.e. one of those water playgrounds with jets which cause small children to get drenched and cry). Elsewhere, there's an outdoor play area, adventure golf, three places to eat, a bowling alley, a sports court and pool tables. So, whilst Hafan y Môr has more facilities after its 2019 revamp, Greenacres is a bit nearer to Snowdonia, so it's a good choice if you're the kind of family who like hiking with small children (that's not our family, by the way...). Customer reviews at Greenacres were almost the same as Hafan y Môr when we checked (4/5 on TripAdvisor or 4.4/5 on Google). Price: Greenacres was somewhere in the middle in our price comparisons. A week for a family of four cost from £555 at Easter 2021, £993 in August 2021 and £183 in early October 2021. |
4. Haven Quay West Holiday Park, Mid Wales (indoor and outdoor swimming pool, lots of facilities)
Haven's Quay West caravan park is a good choice if you're looking for a decent holiday park in mid-Wales. It doesn't quite have the range of facilities of Hafan y Môr (see number 1) but there's still plenty to do and it has other things going for it.
Customers give it an average score of 4/5 on TripAdvisor or 4.4/5 on Google reviews, so almost identical to Greenacres (see number 3) and Hafan y Môr (see number 1). There are indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a splash zone at Quay West, as well as tennis courts, crazy golf, bungee trampolines, two places to eat, a bowling alley and pool tables. It's also near to the beach (to be fair, all of the Haven holiday parks in Wales are near a beach). Price: Quay West was one of the cheaper Haven caravan parks in our price comparison. A week for a family of four cost from £471 at Easter 2021, £853 in August 2021 or £180 in early October 2021. |
5. Haven Presthaven Caravan Holiday Park (cheap Haven park, lots of facilities)
Haven Presthaven is worth a look as it was the cheapest holiday park in Wales in all of our price comparisons. In the school summer holidays, it was more than £500 cheaper for a week at Haven Presthaven than a week at Haven's Lydstep Beach.
But is it any good? Customer review scores are certainly a bit lower than the other four on this list (Presthaven was scoring 3.5/5 on TripAdvisor or 4.2/5 on Google reviews when we checked). However, it's very well equipped and certainly has more onsite than Lydstep Beach Holiday Village (see number 2 - the most expensive option in most of our price comparisons) and most of the other Haven parks in Wales. Presthaven has two indoor swimming pools, an outdoor pool and 'lazy river', five places to eat, a climbing wall, minigolf, indoor and outdoor play areas, a go kart track, a sports court, bungee trampolines, an aerial adventure course and pool tables. It's also near to the beach. Keep in mind that you pay extra for some activities at Haven resorts. It's very conveniently located for people coming from Liverpool (60 minutes away) or Manchester (90 minutes away). Price: the cheapest Haven park in Wales in all our price comparisons. A week for a family of four started at £439 at Easter 2021, £713 in August 2021 or £160 in October 2021. |
