FAQ about Westcountry holidays
Here's a selection of commonly asked questions about holidays in the South West of England to help with your planning.
Which Westcountry county has the best choice of holiday parks?
Cornwall is top of the list. We had to exclude some pretty decent holiday parks from our top ten simply because there is so much competition. Devon isn't far behind though and it has the added advantage of offering a shorter car journey.
Which Westcountry county is cheapest?
It varies - of course - but our research over the years has generally found that Somerset is cheaper than Cornwall, Devon and Dorset for similar holidays. Cornwall tends to be the most expensive with Devon and Dorset somewhere in the middle. See our Somerset top five holiday parks if you're after a bargain.
Which Westcountry county is quickest to reach from London?
If you want a shorter drive, go for Dorset. You can get from London to the Dorset coast in a couple of hours (depending on which part of London you're in, of course). Somerset is also quite close, but getting to the coastal resorts like Weston Super Mare will take you about 2 1/2 hours in the car. East Devon can be reached in about three hours, but Torquay in Devon is more like four hours. The far end of Cornwall is more than five hours from London. See our Dorset holiday parks guide.
Which part of the Westcountry has the best weather?
Honestly, there's not a huge amount in it but South Cornwall and South Devon tend to be slightly warmer because of their south facing coastlines.
