We first stayed at St. Helens Coastal Resort a few years ago but I was keen to return to see how it's changed. We paid this a visit in the autumn and were blessed with some very good weather. First impressions of St. Helens Coastal ResortYou'll find St. Helens Coastal Resort down some narrow windy roads in a small housing estate. The location surprised me the first time I visited, as I expected it to be a bit closer to the beach. It's actually about a 15-minute walk to the beach at St. Helens via the lovely village green. That isn't a deal-breaker for me but I do like to be as close to the beach as possible when staying at a caravan park. The resort itself is very green with a large grassy area in the middle and some mature trees, which do a great job of softening the site. It feels much less clinical than some holiday parks I've been to and the central spaces make a good area for playing. The other thing that I noticed was how neat and on-brand the site is. It is owned by Away Resorts and they have done a really good job of making all the signs around the site look smart. Regular readers will know that I am always impressed by sites that have matching fonts on all their signs! This may seem like a very small point, but it tends to add a level of professionalism that you don't get at some independently owned parks. Accommodation at St. Helens Coastal ResortSt. Helens Coastal Resort has lots of new accommodation that was added in the last few years. The resort has changed hands a couple of times and a lot of money has been invested in high quality caravans. They range from quite narrow caravans that I would say are probably 12 ft wide through to larger lodges with balconies. There are also a small number of double decker lodges. These are really unusual and smart and have a side staircase that I would imagine gives terrific views. I've not stayed in one of these myself, but they certainly look appealing. I'm surprised that more holiday parks don't use this design as it really does look smart. Facilities at St. Helens Coastal ResortSt. Helens Coastal Resort is not a huge site. As you enter the site, you'll come across guest services, which is also the reception. Behind it is a small playground, which I would say is suited to younger children. There's also a small outdoor swimming pool. It was out of season when we visited most recently but we did enjoy using it when we visited the site about five years ago. There isn't an on-site restaurant at St. Helens Coastal Resort, but there are some options within the village of St. Helens that are not far away at all. Overall though, I would see this resort as somewhere for using as a base for exploring. You will spend a little bit of time on site but certainly couldn't fill a whole day. Final thoughts on St. Helens Coastal ResortWe enjoyed staying at St. Helens Coastal Resort five years ago and also enjoyed our more recent visit. It still has the same green vibe combined with good quality accommodation. The caravans and lodges still look smart. The location is a good one within a very pretty part of the Isle of Wight. You can head down to the beach at St. Helens or explore the posh and busy Village of Bembridge. It's also not far from the ferry port of Fishbourne. In fact, the whole island is not a huge size so it's very easy to get out and explore on a bus or in your car. There are also some terrific cycling routes around the East Wight. If you want a holiday park in the local area with an indoor swimming pool, its own restaurant and quicker beach access then you will probably be better to look at Nodes Point or Whitecliff Bay. However, if you want modern accommodation with the option of a hot tub and a quieter vibe then St. Helens Coastal Resort is certainly a good choice. Related pages from the Holiday Park Guru
