Roebeck Country Park on the Isle of Wight Review

Roebeck Country Park is mostly for owners, but some lodges are rented privately

Roebeck Country Park is an unusual one for us to feature on Holiday Park Guru, as the lodges are privately owned. We normally just focus on parks where the majority of the accommodation can be rented from one place.

However, you will find lots of them at Roebeck Country Park for hire on booking sites (such as this one), so we thought it is was worth further investigation. 

We visited in the autumn but were blessed with some really lovely sunny weather.

First impressions and location of Roebeck Country Park 

Roebeck Country Park is just outside of Ryde on the Isle of Wight. It isn't close enough to the beach to walk but you only have to drive for a few minutes to get to the beach at Appley, which is a wide sandy beach with seafront attractions.

The Isle of Wight has a big choice of holiday parks, but there aren't actually that many around Ryde, despite it being a large town. There are more holiday parks around Sandown and Shanklin, as these are somewhat more holiday-style places than Ryde. 

However, the landscape and scenery around Roebeck Country Park is really lovely. It sits on a bit of a slope and has some views in between large mature trees. It feels very much as though the site has been built around the trees, rather than a park being built and then a few trees being added to soften it!

Accommodation at Roebeck Country Park

The accommodation at Roebeck Country Park is a step above that of your average 12 ft wide caravan. Instead, the accommodation is wide lodges with balconies. The lodges reminded me a lot of those at Woodside Bay Lodge Retreat on the Isle of Wight. We are big fans of these lodges as they are large enough to accommodate full-size beds rather than specially made narrow beds.

Roebeck Country Park is a good size and the lodges are intelligently laid out so that most people get something of a view and don't feel too overlooked.

Atmosphere and vibe at Roebeck Country Park

It's important to point out that there aren't facilities on site at Roebeck Country Park. If you're looking for a swimming pool or a restaurant then you would be better to look elsewhere. 

However, it does have a couple of fishing lakes and plenty of walks in the local area. I would see this as more of a place with good quality accommodation from which you can explore. You won't be planning your days around staying on the site.

Final thoughts on Roebeck Country Park 

We were really impressed with Roebeck Country Park. The mature oak trees around the site really give it a lovely woodland feel. The lodges are modern and high quality and the whole site is very well looked after. We also found it to be quiet and the road nearest to the resort is not particularly busy. It certainly feels as though it isn't surrounded by other properties. Instead, it feels quite secluded and peaceful. 

As mentioned earlier, this isn't the place to go if you're after busy entertainment but it's a peaceful and well kept site.
