Peewit Caravan Park in Felixstowe: Our Visit And Review To A Long-Established Suffolk Resort

We found Peewit Caravan Park to be peaceful and well looked after

It was lovely and sunny during our visit to Peewit Caravan Park, which sits less than a mile from the coast at Felixstowe. 

As we arrived at the park, we travelled up a long driveway that takes the caravans away from what is a fairly busy road. The road is near to Felixstowe's international port, which is dominated by stacks of shipping containers. 

There are a few caravans quite near to the road, but we generally found the park to be very peaceful and quiet.​

Vibe and atmosphere at Peewit Caravan Park

Peewit Caravan Park is quite unusual as it is independently owned and has been going for about 60 years. That's an impressive feat considering how many independent holiday parks have been gobbled up by big names such as Haven and Parkdean Resorts. 

Like a lot of independent holiday parks, we found that Peewit Caravan Park does not try to outgun the big names on facilities, but instead aims to be welcoming, friendly and well cared for. ​

Facilities at Peewit Caravan Park ​

No, Peewit Caravan Park certainly does not have lots of facilities. There isn't a swimming pool with flumes, or a climbing wall or someone trying to sell you tickets to a climbing wall. 

However, it does have a playground on site and a nice leafy atmosphere with plenty of trees to created a nice relaxed feel.

Accommodation at Peewit Caravan Park ​

Towards the entrance of the park, there is a good-sized touring and camping area. We were pleased to see a modern and smart looking communal toilet and shower area for the campers and tourers.

The majority of accommodation though is caravans. As far as I'm aware, these are all privately owned rather than being accommodation that you can hire via the park itself. There is a real mix here, including some very smart new lodges and lots of older caravans that are clearly well loved. Many are decorated with trinkets and other homely features, so I assume that they are privately owned.

The park itself is not right by the beach but being close to a main road means that it is quite easy to get down to Felixstowe's coastline. It'll take you about 10 minutes to walk from the entrance of the park to the beach.

We enjoyed making our way down to Felixstowe Beach, which is 10 minutes' walk away

Final thoughts on Peewit Caravan Park ​

Peewit Caravan Park is a good choice if you want a friendly and family run caravan site for your touring caravan or your tent (or a privately owned caravan if you can find one for rent).

It obviously isn't a good choice if you're looking for somewhere that you can spend the majority of your holiday on site. You won't be able to spend a lot of time in a swimming pool or on a mini golf course, as you can add some of the big Haven resorts. However, if you just want somewhere that is well kept, much loved and respected locally then I would put this down as a good choice.
