The weather was good during our visit to Parkdean Resorts Skipsea Sands Holiday Park in Yorkshire. This certainly isn't always the case in Yorkshire in the autumn, but it put us in a good mood for our visit! Here's what we thought of it! First impressions of Skipsea Sands Holiday ParkThe park shares quite a lot in common with nearby Parkdean Resorts Barmston Beach Holiday Park, which we have also visited. However, our first impression was that Skipsea Sands is slightly larger and better equipped than Barmston. The other thing that leapt out at us was that the location is quite a secluded one - which will either be a plus point or a bit off-putting depending on your point of view. Some people like to be in a busy holiday town with resorts surrounding them, whilst others prefer the tranquillity of holiday parks that are surrounded by fields but require a drive to get to the nearest town. Personally, I prefer the more secluded resorts (such as this one) but that's just my opinion! Facilities and eating out at Skipsea SandsAs we explored the site, we came across two amusement arcades, one of which has got a soft play area inside a rather cool castle-shaped building. There's also a large and modern sports bar, which is next to the swimming pool. We found other options of places to eat including an ice cream hut and a fish and chip hut, plus the main restaurant and bar. We concluded that was a pretty good range for a resort of this size and is probably a reflection of the fact that it's in a fairly isolated spot without lots of other eating out options on the doorstep. One of the things that we particularly liked about Skipsea Sands Holiday Park was that the facilities are quite well grouped together, which makes it a lot easier to hop between different things. Caravans and green space at Skipsea SandsThe caravans at Skipsea Sands are fairly close together, but we did find some areas that are a bit more spacious. There are also quite a few grassy patches to enjoy and enough space for the children to kick a ball around. The site has some large and mature trees, which I find really adds a lot to a holiday park and makes it a lot more pleasant. Coastline and sea views at Skipsea Sands Skipsea is a very flat site so there aren't many caravans that offer a sea view despite it being right next to the coastline. The beach at Skipsea Sands is a bit unusual in that you can't access it because the car park has eroded away. This stretch of coastline has very soft cliffs that take a real battering in winter, so the steps that were once allowed easy access have now gone. Of course, this is something of a shame as it means you can't have easy strolls along the beach in an evening or early morning. My assumption is that it isn't worth replacing the steps because they will just be washed away in the next winter. Final thoughts on Skipsea Sands Holiday ParkI would consider Skipsea Sands Holiday Park if you are looking for peace and quiet and don't mind driving off to find a beach for a day out. Personally, I value easy beach access very highly when I'm considering a holiday park but the mix of other entertainment means that it still has a lot going for it.
