It's fair to say we were lucky with the weather when we visited Parkdean Resorts Vauxhall Holiday Park. The sun was shining and there was a non-stop warm Norfolk breeze. Such sunny wonders immediately put me in a better mood and makes a holiday park feel a bit nicer and more appealing. I've often suspected that houses are much more likely to be sold on sunny days than rainy days! First impressions and locationMy first impression of Vauxhall Holiday Park is that it's next to quite a busy road. The plus side is that you can come and go quite easily. You won't spend hours travelling down a dirt track to get to and from the holiday park every day. Of course, the downside is that it is a little bit noisy and there are some caravans that have the road on the other side of a fence. However, I would say it's not a big deal for most of the holiday caravans at Vauxhall. The entertainment area and the reception is quite close to the main road, but most caravans are in much quieter parts of the site and wouldn't even know the road was there. I consider this to be a strategic bit of design as you don't really mind a bit of noise if you're watching some entertainment or having a swim. It's much more of an issue if you're trying to have a quiet read on the balcony or find it hard to sleep with a little bit of road noise. Exploring the facilities at Vauxhall Holiday ParkVauxhall Holiday Park has an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, which is a real plus point. Most Parkdean Resorts holiday parks have at least one pool, but having both is less common. The outdoor pool was looking particularly sparkly when we visited. We also wandered around some of the concessions and restaurants, including the ice cream and the fish and chips. I could see that there was a good choice of places to eat out if you don't fancy cooking. There are various things you can pay extra for including karts but the free things such as the playgrounds are also pretty good at Vauxhall Holiday Park. One in particular is pretty massive and I was tempted to slide down the big green slide myself (I just about managed to resist). The amusement arcade at Vauxhall is pretty massive by holiday park standards. I would advise setting a budget for your children! My family are inclined to bankrupt ourselves on such things after the first night! Having a nosey at the accommodation at Vauxhall Holiday ParkThe majority of the accommodation at Vauxhall is quite straightforward caravans that are relatively close together. However, we did also find some two-storey buildings which are a bit like the traditional chalets that you find at Butlins. These have been upgraded and refurbished over the years, so they're a good choice if you like a nostalgic sort of holiday but don't particularly want a caravan. I was also impressed with how some of the rows of caravans have a nice line of trees that makes it feel a lot more rural and leafy. Cars are parked next to caravans at Vauxhall. This is certainly a lot more convenient because you can come and go much more easily without facing a long walk to a communal car park. However, it does mean that cars move around the site quite often, so you have to be a bit cautious about letting your kids play out on their scooters in front of your caravan. My conclusions from visiting Vauxhall Holiday ParkOverall, I was impressed with the vibe, layout and facilities at Vauxhall Holiday Park. The main downside with Vauxhall Holiday Park (from my point of view) is that you are some way away from the seaside. It's not really walking distance, unless you are keen enough to walk for half an hour. Being slightly inland is not unusual in this part of the country, but there are some holiday parks in Great Yarmouth and Norfolk where you can wander straight down to the beach (e.g. Haven Hopton and Parkdean California Cliffs). I really like this feature in a holiday park and it's one of the most important things for our family. We love walking down to the beach for half an hour after we've eaten tea, but we can't really do that if it's a question of getting in the car, finding a parking space, paying to park and then driving back to go to bed. Anyway, we felt that Vauxhall Holiday Park had a really nice vibe to it and quite a buzz. It's a relatively large and busy holiday park with plenty to do so you can spend quite a bit of time on the resort without feeling you always need to find somewhere to go. What about review scores and how Vauxhall compares to other holiday parks in Great Yarmouth?Don't worry, we've got it covered.
