Lime Tree Holiday Park in Buxton: Our visit and review to a scenic Peak District caravan park10/11/2025 The Peak District holds a lot of nostalgia for me, thanks to a school trip when I was 12. At the time, I had no interest at all in long walks in the countryside and the teachers made the mistake of making them optional. Every day, I signed up for the activity that required the least amount of walking, which was usually a visit to a museum or a railway. Nowadays, I have more of an appreciation for the scenery in places like Buxton and Matlock and will very happily sign up for a long walk. We recently visited Lime Tree Holiday Park, which is a popular choice for accommodation in this part of Derbyshire. The majority of holiday parks in the UK are around the coast, so I'm always interested to see what sort of vibe you get at inland resorts. First impressions of Lime Tree Holiday ParkAs you approach Lime Tree Holiday Park, you will notice it is very close to the imposing and impressive Dukes Drive Viaduct. As we travelled underneath it, I couldn't help but wonder why modern industrial projects don't look quite so graceful. Anyway, enough of my whinging about modern life. Lime Tree Holiday Park has a homely, friendly and independent feel about it. It doesn't have slick branding or great big signs trying to persuade you to sign up for a paid-for-activity but it's clearly much loved and looked after by its owners. Accommodation at Lime Tree Holiday ParkThere are two halves to Lime Tree Holiday Park, which we got to know as we explored. The lower half is the section that you reach first when you arrive at the park. Here there are a couple of neat rows of green caravans overlooking a nice area of green space. Some holiday parks would have been tempted to fill in this middle section with more accommodation but they have wisely kept it open to give it a much greener feel. There are several mature trees surrounding the holiday park, which adds to the rural feel and helps it fit in to a lovely green part of England. The second half of Lime Tree Holiday Park is higher up towards the back of the site and has more modern lodges. Some of these have a bit of a view through the trees, as they are in elevated positions. This area has clearly had a lot of investment and has lovely smooth tarmac paths that are looking immaculate. Facilities and entertainment at Lime Tree ParkLime Tree Holiday Park is not the place to come if you are hoping to see a man in a purple jacket singing songs by Frank Sinatra. There is no clubhouse or swimming pool or on-site restaurant. There also isn't a kids' club or a bingo hall. It does have a reception and somewhere you can wash your pants, but really that is about it in terms of facilities. If that doesn't bother you then Lime Tree Holiday Park will do the job nicely. Because it doesn't offer these activities and entertainment, it does also tend to be quite a good value holiday park. Final thoughts Needless to say, Lime Tree Park is not the place to visit if you want a seaside holiday with a kids' entertainer. However, it is neatly done and well looked after and if you want somewhere to get out and explore the Peak District then I'd say it's an excellent choice.
