It took some determination for us to reach Away Resorts Kenwick Woods Holiday Park, as you have to travel down a very long road to reach the resort. Once we finally got to the end of the road, we were rewarded with a truly lovely setting for a holiday park. Read on for our review and some photos from our visit. A holiday amongst the treesWhilst some holiday parks can claim to be leafy because they have a few trees around the site, at Kenwick Woods you are literally in the forest. The accommodation are also proper woodland lodges, rather than static caravans with a back-to-nature name. I recall another holiday park offering accommodation called a 'Mouse caravan', which I thought was curious since it's the last thing you want in your holiday home. The woodland vibe at Away Resorts Kenwick WoodsWe found the whole place to be truly peaceful and tranquil, particularly when the sun was shining and the light was dappling through the leaves. The vibe we picked up was very much like Center Parcs in that you are surrounded by woodland. However, it's important to point out that there are quite significant differences. Kenwick Woods, of course, is significantly smaller than Center Parcs. We got our bearings at Kenwick Woods very quickly as there are about 100 lodges compared to the 800 or so that you get at Center Parcs in the UK. The facilities are obviously not on the same scale - but prices are also quite a lot lower. Tracks around the site are gravel tracks that have been sympathetically laid as tarmac would be much too harsh for the natural surroundings. Facilities and things to do at Away Resorts Kenwick WoodsThe facilities setup is quite unusual. Kenwick Woods itself doesn't have a lot of facilities in the woodland area but there are facilities at the hotel further towards the car park that you are able to use, including a swimming pool and a restaurant. I'm still not quite clear on the ownership setup, as you can book lodges via Away Resorts and Landal Greenparks.
Alongside Kenwick Woods is a golf course, and surrounding it is a significant amount of woodland and other rolling scenery. When we have visited other woodland holiday parks such as Haven's Wild Duck in Norfolk, we were surprised that surrounding the site was a housing estate (don't let that put you off - it's a lovely resort). (Read about our visit to Wild Duck). That suburban location isn't really the case at Kenwick Woods, which is in a very rural part of Lincolnshire. The downside of that is that if you want to have days out then you will have a bit of a drive. There is certainly no beach on the doorstep, which is the case with most of my favourite holiday parks and is one of the first things we look for. If that doesn't bother you, then I would certainly consider Kenwick Woods for a quiet and relaxing holiday. It's not the sort of place where you will have lots of activities laid on for you, but for a back to nature type holiday and a chance to slow down in a truly pretty setting then I would highly recommend it.
