We had been to Haven Skegness Holiday Park once before, shortly after Haven had bought the park (it was previously known as Richmond Holiday Village). Haven renamed it and added a few bits at the time, but I was keen to see what else they had done in the interim. Here's how we got on, along with some of our photos. Significant investment from HavenAs you expect from Haven, its Skegness park has had a lot of investment and is looking pretty smart. Haven are pretty good at both brand consistency and spending money on communal areas in their parks. That's not to say that all of their holiday parks are the same (because they certainly are not). Some are very large with well over 1000 caravans whilst others are much smaller with perhaps two or three hundred caravans. I would put Haven Skegness Holiday Park in the smaller to mid-sized Haven category. We did notice though on our visit that they are extending the site and adding some new caravans so it may eventually become one of their larger resorts. Location of Haven Skegness Holiday ParkWhen you visit Haven Skegness Holiday Park, you will notice that it is not right by the beach. This, of course, is a shame because you will need to jump in the car rather than strolling down in an evening. However, we have visited lots of holiday parks around Skegness and Ingoldmells and have found most of the ones right on the seafront are the smaller independent holiday parks that don't have a good range of facilities. They are also a little more old-fashioned and kiss-me-quick than Haven. Quite frankly, they don't appeal to us as much. The seafront holiday parks in this part of England are also quite crammed together and they tend to have very little greenery and landscaping. There are one or two with a country-park vibe, but they tend to be the holiday parks that are for owners rather than for holidays. Anyway, the point of all this waffle is that if you want a busy and well-equipped holiday park in the Skegness area from a trusted brand, then I don't think you will do better than Haven Skegness Holiday Park. Getting our bearings at Haven Skegness Holiday ParkAs we got to reacquaint ourselves with the site, we were impressed with the central village, which is looking very smart and modern. It is similar in style to other Haven villages that we have visited, such as Haven Caister-on-Sea. The focal point is a stage where you can find outdoor entertainment. Surrounding the stage are things like bungee trampolines, pedal go-karts, Burger King and Papa John's, as well as a pub style restaurant for those who don't fancy fast food. Haven Skegness Holiday Park also has an indoor swimming pool and a sports court where some of the paid for activities are held. There's also a playground (which is free, of course). The downsides of Haven Skegness Holiday ParkOne thing I would say is that the range of activities at Haven Skegness is not as wide as you get at the really big Haven holiday parks. For example, there is no high ropes course and we didn't see any evidence of things like the inflatable arena that they have at some Haven holiday parks. On the plus side, Haven Skegness holiday park does have a very modern Bark Yard. These are the dog agility courses that can be found at about half a dozen Haven resorts around the country. Typically, these have been added to Haven's bigger resorts so this is something of a coup for Haven Skegness and perhaps shows that they are planning on adding more to the site. Caravans at Haven Skegness Holiday ParkThe vast majority of accommodation at Haven Skegness is caravans. We commented that these are mostly laid out in neat rows but are not too crammed in, compared to other holiday parks we have been to. We didn't see many quiet cul-de-sacs of caravans, which is our preferred layout as it allows our children to play outside and to get to know others at the site a bit more easily. Camping and touring area at Haven Skegness Holiday ParkWe also took a look around the sizeable camping and touring area at Haven Skegness. It wasn't rammed full when we visited, but it was a nice flat site that makes life easier for tourers. A couple of final thoughts about Haven Skegness Holiday ParkIf I'm being very critical, I would say that some of the paths at Haven Skegness Holiday Park are looking a little bit worn compared to some of the other Haven resorts we have visited recently. This is only a very minor point and I wouldn't make all your holiday decisions based on how smooth the tarmac is (although this is a strange obsession of mine).
Overall then, we continue to be impressed with the Haven resorts that we have visited over the years. It's particularly good that they have managed to put a clear Haven stamp on this park, considering it has only been their resort for a few years.
