It's fair to say that Haven Reighton Sands has quite a different vibe to the other Haven holiday parks in Yorkshire. The biggest contrast is with Haven Primrose Valley, which is an absolutely colossal holiday park that we have also visited. Here are our thoughts, along with some photos from our visit. Chilled out beach exploring at Haven Reighton SandsWhen we visited Haven Reighton Sands, we found it to be on a much smaller and chilled out scale than Haven Primrose Valley. That is either a positive or a negative depending on what you are looking for from a holiday park! Where Reighton Sands excels over Haven's other holiday parks in Yorkshire is access to the beach. Towards the bottom of the park is a steep slope that leads down to a beautiful sandy beach. As is the case with most of the Yorkshire coastline, the sand goes on for miles at low tide and it's really rather lovely. We very much enjoyed wandering down to the beach at Reighton Sands. It doesn't feel like a big detour from the main holiday park. That isn't always the case at other parks, despite what the brochures would have you believe. That gives Reighton Sands some bonus points over Haven Primrose Valley, where it is a bit of a walk to get to the beach. This is partly because of the size of Primrose Valley, where caravans towards one end of the park are some distance from the footpath down to the beach. Meanwhile, Blue Dolphin - which is another Haven holiday park in Yorkshire - has lovely views and is by the coastal path but does not have beach access unless you own abseiling gear and don't mind a huge drop off a cliff (I would not recommend this...). Activities, facilities and outing out at Haven Reighton Sands Holiday ParkAnyway, back to Reighton Sands Holiday Park and our recent visit. It's fair to say Reighton Sands doesn't have the range of activities that you will find at some of the bigger Haven holiday parks, such as Primrose Valley. There is a playground and a swimming pool and somewhere you can eat, but it is nowhere near the scale of things to do that you will find at Haven's biggest parks. The exception to this is that Reighton Sands has a golf course, which is not something you will find at every Haven holiday park. I am not a pro golfer and don't own any Pringle jumpers, so this wasn't a big deal to me, but I imagine to some people this would be a real plus point. There is no central Adventure Village with things like a high ropes course and a climbing wall at Reighton Sands. These have been popping up at Haven resorts all over the country for a few years now, but haven't made their way to this small corner of Yorkshire just yet. Sea views and a good inclineOn the plus side, what we did like about Haven Reighton Sands was that a significant number of caravans at the site have a decent sea view. It is on a very gradual slope, which means that you will get at least something of a sea view even if you aren't on the front row. That's not really the case at Haven Blue Dolphin and Haven Primrose Valley, just because of the topography of the land. The other thing worth mentioning is that Reighton Sands sands is a little way out of Filey itself and is in quite an isolated location. We had our own transport but you would need to rely on buses to get into the main town if you don't bring your car. I saw quite a huddle of people waiting at the bus stop (and no, I couldn't give them all a lift). We also took a wander around the touring area. It is on something on a slope, so motorhome and caravan users were making the most of their wheel chocks! Final thoughts about Haven Reighton SandsOverall then, I would say that Reighton Sands is a great choice if you want a Haven holiday park in Yorkshire with a beach, but aren't bothered about all the other facilities. Of course, you will pay for a lot of activities at Haven so you may see it as a plus point if there aren't lots of exciting things for your children to beg you to pay for!
