We were lucky enough to visit Haven Caister on Sea Holiday Park in late August this year. That doesn't always guarantee good weather, but as it happened Norfolk was baked in beautiful sunshine. The park still had a school holiday buzz to it with loads going on and lots of people just enjoying wandering around during the day. Children swung on swings, parents shouted encouragement from the bottom of the high ropes course and siblings argued on the minigolf course. It was all pretty idyllic and I've got to admit I feel a little bit more in love with Caister on Sea Holiday Park than I expected (Ed: get a grip, man). Spoiler alert...Caister on Sea Holiday Park is in a great locationLet's start with the location, which sets Haven Caister on Sea Holiday Park apart from some of the other holiday parks in Norfolk (e.g. Haven Wild Duck, Parkdean Resorts Vauxhall Holiday Park and Parkdean Resorts Cherry Tree Holiday Park). Right on the doorstep at Haven Caister on Sea is a beautiful long section of soft golden sand backed by sand dunes and a view out to sea. Unlike Haven Seashore and Parkdean California Cliffs, the beach is directly accessible rather than requiring you to cross a public road. If you're being a pedant, you'll point out that some of Seashore has direct access, but there's a big section that overlooks the road. You could argue that the sea view at Haven Caister on Sea is not the most interesting, as you are unlikely to see a lot of boats sailing past. Instead, you get a view of wind turbines going about their business. Some people love that sort of view, but personally I like a sea view where there is something to look at. Anyway, that's a pretty small criticism when you consider the lovely beach that the holiday park has on its doorstep. The sand dunes add a lot to the atmosphere and give it a real Norfolk vibe - but they do mean that you aren't likely to get a sea view from your caravan. You'll need to get off your bottom and walk perhaps 50 metres from the closest caravan to get onto the beach. Top Tip: Haven Hopton is the one to go for in this part of the world if you want a stunning view from your caravan. I spent a good deal of time sat on a bench enjoying the sunshine. The peace and quiet was punctuated with screams of excitement from a mum who was finding the water at Caister on Sea to be a little bit chilly. Trampolines, high ropes and fun in the sunThe main outdoor entertainment area at Haven Caister on Sea has clearly had a lot of money spent on it and it is still looking very good in my opinion. You'll pay to use some things such as mini golf, bungee trampolines, kart hire and the high ropes but there is also a good playground that you don't pay extra for. Eating out at Haven Caister on SeaI was impressed with the range of places to eat, some of which are big names. This is quite common at Haven holiday parks and you could argue that it makes them all look quite similar. Personally, I quite like chain restaurants because we have to deal with a serious allergy in our family. It is quite reassuring when you see a Burger King that you know will be safe for your family to eat at (or a Papa John's if you're more in the mood for pizza). As with other Havens, the vast majority of accommodation at Caister on Sea is caravans. When we visited Caister on Sea, we saw a mixture of some caravans that were quite close together and some that were a bit more spread out. It certainly isn't the most jam packed holiday park (some resorts are way too crammed in my opinion), but we've also seen some that a bit more spaced out and leafy. There aren't many trees at Haven Caister on Sea compared to Haven Hopton or Haven Wild Duck, which I think is a shame. What about dogs?I'm not a dog owner, but Caister on Sea is one of Haven's more dog friendly parks. In the last few years, they've added a bark yard, which is a dog agility course. To be fair, only two Haven resorts don't allow dogs - Burnham on Sea in Somerset and Riviere Sands in Cornwall. You can read more about what Haven offers pet owners in our guide to Haven's dog friendly holiday parks. We've also written a guide to how much you'll pay to bring a dog at the various holiday park chains in the UK, as it does vary a bit. Swimming at Haven Caister on SeaThe indoor swimming pool at Caister on Sea is a really good size and it's clearly very popular. There was a pretty large queue of people trying to get in when I visited! Further exploring and conclusionsAs I explored the park I kept finding new things that I liked about it. As well as accessing the beach via small paths through the sand dunes next to many of the caravans, you can also get to it down a lovely boardwalk near to the swimming pool. Overall, it's fair to say that I was taken with Haven Caister on Sea and hope to come back for a longer stay at a later date. Want to know how it compares to Haven's other Norfolk holiday parks?Of course you do! Norfolk is blessed with four of the best Haven holiday parks in the UK.
