We'd been to Sherwood Pines before, but this was our first visit to Forest Holidays Sherwood Forest

Over the years, we've had a few trips to Sherwood Forest, but had never before visited the holiday park that forms part of the woodland. 

In fact, holiday park is probably the wrong phrase to use for Forest Holidays lovely leafy resort at Sherwood Pines.

Forest Holidays has about a dozen resorts around the UK, all of which are within woodland (as you will have guessed from the name).

First impressions of Forest Holidays Sherwood Forest ​

We followed the signs for Sherwood Pines

To reach the resort, we first went into the entrance for Sherwood Pines and then took a right turn down a very long track.

As you arrive and head towards the reception, you see several of the lodges nestled in between the trees. We arrived when it was getting a little dark and many of the lodges had their lights on, which made them look particularly cosy and appealing. 

As we continued down the long track to the reception we felt as though we were going deeper and deeper into the forest.

​At the end is the main building where you can also get something to eat. There's also a small playground here and a list of the activities that you can sign up for.

Accommodation and vibe at Forest Holidays Sherwood Forest 

The main thing that struck us when we visited Forest Holidays Sherwood Forest was quite how embedded the lodges are within the woods. This is not a case of a holiday park being built and then a few trees being planted but rather holiday lodges neatly fitting around an established woodland. 

The lodges are large and they're a great choice if you fancy sitting in a hot tub and breathing in the forest air.

Location and local area 

The resort itself has a few things to do, but it shouldn't be mixed up with the nearby Center Parcs where you will really just want to stay on site and use the onsite facilities. Instead, the idea is that you use the Sherwood Pines facilities, which include some really good mountain bike tracks, as well as a Go Ape course.

The mountain bike tracks at Sherwood Pines are great fun and are rated based on how challenging they are. We completed the easier green and blue courses, but there are also more extreme courses for those who feel inclined.

Cycling is a big thing at Forest Holidays Sherwood Forest, and you can hire bikes if you don't bring your own. The reception and restaurant building links up with the path that leads all the way to the Sherwood Pines Visitor Centre. This is a neat little addition and saves you having to go out the resort to go back into Sherwood Pines. ​

Final thoughts on Forest Holidays Sherwood Forest 

I'm a big fan of this Forest Holidays resort. No, it doesn't offer a swimming pool or many of the bigger activities that you would get at Center Parcs but it does offer a good range of things to do in a really lovely woodland setting. Lots of the lodges come with hot tubs and it's very easy to come and go from the site to explore what the local area has. 

The proximity of Sherwood Pines and Go Ape is another really big plus point. 

Of course, this resort is nowhere near the sea so don't come here expecting a beach holiday. Hopefully you would be aware of that already before you booked!
