We've been to quite a few of the Park Holidays UK resorts around Essex and the East of England. Dovercourt was still on our list, so we decided to give it a go this autumn. Impressions on our arrival at DovercourtAs we made our way towards Dovercourt Holiday Park we realized that we weren't in a busy tourist area with the traditional seafront and amusements. If you want that sort of thing then Clacton-on-Sea or Southend are the places to go (e.g. St Osyth & Martello Beach Holiday Park near Clacton). The vibe at Dovercourt is much more relaxed and about enjoying a quiet part of the county. One of the first things we did was to explore the route that leads to the beach. We made our way towards a small gate at the edge of the park, which led us to a steep bank. This followed a coastal path with sand dunes and an expansive scrubby area that led all the way to the beach. In other words, it is quite an effort to get down to the actual sand and is better for walking and exploring rather than a simple bucket and spade outing. We certainly felt that it was a beautiful setting, particularly on summer evenings and enjoyed exploring around here. Facilities at Dovercourt Holiday ParkWe were blown away with how much has been added and invested by Park Holidays UK at Dovercourt. The main facilities all centre around a section near to the entrance of the park. We made our way towards the activity zone, which has a soft play area and also has some craft activities. Next to that is the indoor swimming pool, which is a pretty good size and has a two lane slide. There was also the option of hiring carts that we could pedal around the site. We've noticed these are popping up all over the place now and can be hired at most Parkdean and Haven resorts, as well as some Park Holiday UK resorts. The biggest building is the bar, dining and entertainment area. In here is a mid-sized amusement arcade with lots of flashing machines as well as a large restaurant. There's also a mini golf course. The main playground is in a large grassy area and is a really modern and high quality setup. We also found a smaller playground as we got to know the site. Accommodation and atmosphere at Dovercourt Holiday ParkThe caravans at Dovercourt are mostly quite close together, but there are some large green spaces that have been left. This is a really good move in my opinion as it gives a holiday park a much nicer feel. There are quite a few trees around the edge of the site as well as some between the caravans and scattered around the site. Many of these are large mature trees, which again give a nice feel to the site. Our final thoughtsWe very much enjoyed our time at Dovercourt, which is a smart and modern holiday park. Money has clearly been invested here and it has a nice clean and tidy feel to it.
It is worth checking that this is the sort of area that you want to stay. We certainly found the coastline pretty but it wasn't really the sort of place where you can have beach trips every day without jumping in the car or walking a long way. You also need to travel in the car for a day out, as you aren't within a main and busy tourist town. However, you could see a lot of these things as positives as it has a nice isolated and 'slowed down' feel that you don't always get in the big resorts.
