As previously discussed on Holiday Park Guru, we have visited several Darwin Escapes resorts including those in Somerset, Bath, Cornwall, Norfolk and on the Isle of Wight. Kilnwick Percy Resort and Golf Club in Yorkshire was one that we hadn't been to before, so we were keen to pay it a visit. High quality from Darwin Escapes as usualFrom the moment we arrived, it was quite clear that Kilnwick Percy is on a par with the other high quality Darwin Escapes resorts in the UK. And yes, that was a deliberate golf pun. Let's be clear though - this is not really a holiday park in the vein of Haven, Parkdean Resorts and so on, but offers quite a different sort of holiday. All about the golf...and the accommodationThe focal point of Percy Kilnwick is golf. It was quite clear when we visited that it was being well used by people that weren't staying at the resort but were just enjoying the golf course. Alongside that is the accommodation, which are large lodges spread out among leafy lanes. These are significantly larger, more substantial, and a fair bit posher than your average caravan or lodge park. It also became clear as we explored the site that the scale is much smaller than a typical holiday park, as there are only about 30 or 40 of these lodges (unless there are hundreds more hidden away that we missed). For comparison, the other Darwin Escapes resorts that we have stayed at tend to have more like 100 lodges whilst some Haven resorts have more than 1000 caravans. Center Parcs have about 800 lodges at their European resorts. Kilnwick Percy's other facilitiesThe facilities at Kilnwick Percy include a restaurant overlooking the golf course and a gym - but this is more a resort for exploring Yorkshire than somewhere that you will be staying on site all week. During our visit we were blessed with beautiful Yorkshire sunshine and the bar and restaurant provided a lovely spot for enjoying the rolling hills with a drink. As with other Darwin Escapes that we have visited, the site is very clean and exquisitely maintained. Roads and car parks are smooth rather than full of potholes and bumps, and we also appreciated the many trees on the site, which soften the landscape. One obvious downside to Kilnwick Percy Resort is that it is not particularly near to the seaside. It took us about an hour to reach the East Yorkshire coastline at Filey. That is quite a big deal for us because trips to the seaside are an essential part of a holiday with our family (I love dipping my toes in the sea, Mrs Guru is less keen). If that is less of an issue for you then I would take a closer look at Kilnwick Percy Resort and Golf Club.
