What did we think of Tattershall Lakes Country Park in Lincolnshire?

Anyone who reads this blog regularly (Ed: you mean your mum and auntie?) will know that we always prioritise a caravan site near to a beach when we go on holiday.

This is because we love nothing better than a quick stroll down to the beach as the sun is dropping in the sky after tea time. This is much easier to do if you are next to a beach than if you need to jump into the car, especially if you're on holiday with my children. 

However, we were blown away by Tattershall Lakes Country Park, which we visited recently. The location is a very long way from the coastline in Lincolnshire, but the setting is one of the loveliest you will find in the East Midlands.

Resort size and first impressions

Tattershall Lakes is a very large resort and it will take you some time to get your bearings, as it did us. You might consider bringing bicycles as a quick way to get around the site. 

As the name suggests, there are several large lakes at Tattershall Lakes that form much of the entertainment at the resort. The large number of lakes also means that a significant number of the caravans and lodges get a terrific view.

A choice of lakes and facilities

The lakes are themed and it's important to make sure you end up in the part of the park that suits your ideal holiday. The fishing lake - for example - is wonderfully peaceful whilst the jet ski lake is much noisier but gives you something to look at. 

Site-owner Away Resorts has invested a lot in recent years and we enjoyed seeing the new outdoor swimming pool, which they refer to as the lido. The design is such that you can stay for some time rather than having a quick dip and leaving.

There are also some high ropes and other fun and games including an inflatable aqua park plus a restaurant overlooking the water.

Lakes, lakes and more lakes!

What you get from seeing the site rather than just reading about it is a sense of quite how much the lakes dominate the site. As we explored, we found that you could see water almost wherever you were at Tattershall Lakes. Lot of holiday parks have some parts that look nice on the photos, but are dominated by large sections that are much less scenic.

Accommodation at Tattershall Lakes

The range of accommodation at Tattershall Lakes is particularly interesting. As well as the usual caravans and static lodges, there are also quite a few wooden lodges that wouldn't look out of place in Switzerland or in a forest retreat. These add a bit of colour and variation to the site, which is most welcome. ​

​The local area

There is also some interesting architecture and history in the local village including a quaint market square, a castle and a beautiful old church. We explored a little and found some lovely footpaths around the back of the site that follow one of the local rivers.

Final thoughts

Overall then, it's a big thumbs up for Tattershall Lakes Holiday Park. If you can, I would recommend getting a front row lodge or caravan to make the most of the lakeside setting. Even if you can't, you will still feel that you are not too far from a scenic location on a sunny evening.
