This was our first visit to Appletree Holiday Park, which was previously known as Boston West but is now owned by Away Resorts. The same company also own nearby, Tattersall Lakes, which we have visited (and are big fans of) so we were intrigued to see what Appletree could offer us. An unusual type of holiday resortThe location of Appletree is quite an unusual one in that it isn't really near to the sea and also isn't a lake resort. It's also a bit quirky because it has a hotel onsite (still called Boston West from what I could tell), as well as the lodges that make up the bulk of the accommodation. When you look around Appletree you will see that golf is a big part of its appeal, which is something that not many holiday parks offer. Yes, many holiday parks have mini golf and some have pitch and putt but this is a bit more serious with a driving range and grown-up nine-hole golf course. It also has footgolf (i.e. a combination of football and golf). Facilities and recent investmentAs we came into the park we noticed that quite a lot of investment has been made into some new facilities including a decent playground, a splash park and restaurant. There's also a second playground, which is amongst some of the caravans. If you want to eat out, Appletree has a restaurant called Six West, which has been refurbished recently. Accommodation at AppletreeThe accommodation at Appletree is quite straightforward, with long rows of well-spaced out caravans. As with most Away Resorts that we have visited, the roads and pathways are really well maintained. You certainly won't find potholes and worn out roads. There is also some landscaping, which we appreciated, particularly around the roundabout at the start of the accommodation. Surrounding Appletree is woodland as well as some lakes. These are not manicured lakes with fountains but are more your nature reserve sort of lakes that blend in subtly. Location and final thoughts on AppletreeOne downside is that Appletree sits alongside a fairly busy road and I did find that I could hear the road when outside near the caravans. That's not ideal in my mind but it was not exactly deafening. Overall, I would say that Appletree is very pleasant. It is certainly smart and tidy and is clearly being well looked after by its new owners. I also found it to be quite a peaceful place, despite the proximity to traffic. For me, the location wouldn't bring me to the site as it doesn't have a sandy beach on the doorstep or particularly spectacular walks nearby (as far as I'm aware). However, I do feel there are two types of people that may well stay at Appletree and for them it would be ideal. The first, of course, is golfers. I don't know a huge amount about golf but it looked like a good course with plenty of trees and well tended greens. The second group would be those who want convenient accommodation for visiting Lincoln or one of the towns in that part of Lincolnshire.
It's also fairly convenient for trips to Skegness and Ingoldmells. Personally, I find the seafront parks around the coast to be quite squashed and lacking in green space. Appletree provides a good compromise of a park with green space but also access to those beaches and the kiss-me-quick hats of East Lincolnshire.
