A tour of Sandhills Holiday Park on the Isle of Wight

We recently had a look round Sandhills Holiday Park on the Isle of Wight, which can be found on the edge of Bembridge in the East Wight.

It isn't part of a big name holiday park chain and it doesn't have a big range of facilities. There's a small shop and playground, but there isn't a restaurant, swimming pool or clubhouse.

However, the location is exceptionally good. The local beach - Whitecliff Bay - is an absolute gem with gorgeous soft sands and tree lined cliffs surrounding the beach.

We were particularly impressed with how many of the caravans have a sea view, thanks to the way the site has been laid out. It also has a nice natural slope to the site, which means that it's not just the front row caravans that get a bit of a sea view.

The beach itself is hard to access unless you are staying at either Sandhills Holiday Park or Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park. It also requires a walk down a steep slope. A combination of these factors means that the beach isn't very busy, despite being one of the best on the Isle of Wight. If Whitecliff Bay was in Cornwall and had a car park then you'd be crammed in like fans at a New Kids On The Block concert (Ed: time to update your references).

Both of the cafes on the beach are closed at the moment, which is a shame. It also feels like it would benefit from a watersports hire centre on the beach, but that might not be feasible considering the challenges of accessing the beach.
